Born in Evansville Indiana, Katrina began singing at the
young age of five in the New Hope Baptist church choir. There
she discovered a passion for expressing herself through music
and later, through the encouragement of family and friends,
she began writing music as well.
Katrina remembers being exposed to and forming a very close
relationship with God while very young. However, a serious
commitment to Christ was made at the age of 16 during a youth
winter retreat in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Although black gospel is where Katrina cut her musical
teeth, she felt drawn to the exploding pop and funk culture
of the
seventies. This exposure to many
different styles of music broadened Katrina's own creative abilities and fostered
a love for variety. Over the years, however, Katrina's writing style and singing
began to take on a shape of its own. Now, most of her writing and singing is
centered on the acoustic guitar. Her lyrics are open and honest and convey life's
struggles as well as a deep sense of joy and security found in her relationship
with God.
Today, married to her husband Donnie, (who, by the way,
introduced Katrina to the guitar and taught her the basic
chords and rhythms), along with their two
children, Todd and Candice, Katrina feels that she has found a tremendous gift
in the ministry of Coram Deo. The best way to describe her feelings for this
band is that she has a deep sense of purpose and camaraderie amongst the other
band members. Also there is a great sense of unity where the ministries’ focus
is concerned. She used to dream of being in a ministry where all members would
be deeply sold out to God and willing to lay down their gifts and talents for
His glory; where everyone's desire is to see God revealed in a tangible way and
that life change would be the result. To Katrina, or "Sistah" which
is the name that the band affectionately calls her, Coram Deo is a lifelong dream
come true.
